Aupair Guidelines

  • Aupairs in Greece are between the ages of 18 -35
  • Aupairs in Greece are provided with their own bedroom
  • Aupairs in Greece are expected to provide between 35 and 40 hours a week of childcare and light housekeeping. Not to exceed 10 hours per day.
  • Aupairs in Greece receive 500 EU a month in pocket money. However, they can choose to work an addition 5 hrs per wk and it is paid at 25% higher than normal wage.
  • Aupairs in Greece generally receive one weeks paid vacation
  • Greek Host Families generally provide aupairs with one free weekend per month
  • Non-EU/EEA citizens need a resident permit to work in Greece.
  • All application documents for resident permit must be submitted in Greek.

EU/EEA members (plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland nationals) can work and live in Greece without a permit. They are only required to register with the authorities in Greece. Additional information can be found here.

Aupairs from outside of the EU must contact their local Greece Embassy to see if they qualify for a work permit.

Resident permits are very difficult to obtain. They require Government approval, a large deposit, by aupair or employer. Very few are approved. Greece has the lowest approval rate of any resident permit. You need to first obtain a visa to enter Greece then apply for a permit within 30 days of your arrival if you intend to work there longer than 90 days. The process from start to finish, could take up to a year.
